COUPLES THERAPY

Two people holding hands affectionately.

You love each other. But lately, talking feels harder than it should.

You may start a conversation hoping to work something out, only to end up frustrated, misunderstood, or further apart. Maybe one of you shuts down while the other keeps trying to talk. Maybe small disagreements turn into bigger arguments—or you’ve started avoiding certain conversations altogether because you already know how they usually end.

Maybe this sounds familiar…

You keep having the same argument without actually resolving it.

One of you wants to talk now; the other needs space.

You assume you know what your partner meant instead of asking.

Small disagreements quickly become about everything that has happened before.

You’re together, but you don’t feel as connected as you used to.

You avoid certain conversations because you’re afraid they’ll just end the same way.

IT’S NOT ALWAYS ABOUT WHO’S RIGHT

Sometimes you’re both responding to what you think the other person meant instead of what was actually said

You may be filling in the blanks, assuming intentions, or reacting to something that happened long before this particular conversation

Couples therapy gives us room to slow things down. We can look at what was actually said, what each of you heard, what you assumed, and what keeps happening between you.

The goal isn’t to decide who wins the argument. It’s to recognize what’s getting in the way of hearing each other and learn how to do something different.

What We Can Work On Together

Every couple has patterns. The goal is to understand yours and practice something different.

Couples Therapy Can Also Support You With

Learn to say what you mean, listen for what your partner is actually saying, and have difficult conversations without immediately becoming defensive or shutting down.

BREAK THE CYCLE

Recognize the patterns that keep turning conversations into the same argument—and practice responding differently instead of repeating what hasn’t been working.

REBUILD CONNECTION

Work through hurt, resentment, trust concerns, and unresolved issues so you can feel more connected instead of continuing to carry them into every conversation.

WHAT COUPLES THERAPY WITH ME LOOKS LIKE

I’m not here to decide who’s right, who’s wrong, or who started it. We’ll look at what each of you brings into the relationship, where communication is breaking down, and what each person can take responsibility for changing.

I’ll give both of you room to be heard, but I’ll also challenge you when needed. Sometimes that means slowing down a conversation. Sometimes it means asking what was actually said instead of responding to what you assumed your partner meant. And sometimes it means looking at your own behavior instead of focusing only on theirs.

WE’LL SLOW IT DOWN

We’ll look at what was actually said, what each of you heard, and where things got off track.

I WON’T TAKE SIDES

The goal isn’t to find the “bad guy.” We’ll look at the patterns between you and what each person can do differently.

YOU’LL PRACTICE

We’ll work on having conversations differently—not just understanding why the same arguments keep happening.

Couples Therapy Can Also Support You With

Your relationship doesn’t have to be falling apart for couples therapy to be helpful.

Some couples come because they’re in the middle of a difficult season. Others want to address something before it becomes a bigger problem. Couples therapy can also provide support with:

  • Trust concerns
  • Premarital concerns & preparation
  • Life changes & transitions
  • Family and extended-family dynamics
  • Emotional intimacy & connection
  • Forgiveness & letting go
  • Rebuilding after hurt
  • Different communication styles

You don’t have to wait until your relationship is in crisis to ask for help.

FAITH-INTEGRATED COUPLES THERAPY

Your faith can be part of the conversation, too.

If your relationship with God is important to you, we can make room for your faith in couples therapy. That may mean talking about how your beliefs and values shape the way you approach marriage, communication, forgiveness, commitment, or difficult decisions.

Faith integration doesn’t mean using Scripture to avoid hard conversations or expecting one person to simply “forgive and move on.” We can make room for your faith while still addressing hurt, accountability, communication, and the patterns affecting your relationship.

Faith integration is always based on what feels right for both of you.
